These cutters are ideal for use on small cutting surfaces such as rope, tape, ribbon, thread and cable made from aramid and para-aramid fibers such as Kevlar®, Dyneema®, Vectran®, Spectra®, Technora®, Nomex®, Innegra®, Dacron® and other materials made from fiberglass and carbon fiber.  Its blades are made of high carbon alloy steel from Japan and are infused with Molybdenum and Vanadium (HRC 60~62) through a proprietary manufacturing process to achieve a level of hardness (HV1200) to cut high tech material.  It can also be used to cut materials made from carbon fiber, glass fiber, plastic, canvas, vinyl, leather, suede, leatherette, nylon, silk, cotton, for upholstery, headliner, string or other knitted forms.

These cutters are meant for precise and clean cuts into the material in tight spaces.  They can be used to make relief cuts during the lay-up process so reinforcements precisely fit in the mold.  Or cut stubborn threads hanging off the edge of fabric.  Or make small cuts on intricate parts.  The cutting performance is great across the length of the blade; in fact, the blades cut all the way to the tips for quick and accurate trimming.  They can also be used to make relief cuts during the lay-up process to fit the reinforcement into the mold.  Cut hanging fibers along the cutting edge of the fabric cleanly.  Cut fiber thread off the fiber optic cable neatly when installing connectors.  Also used for splicing all types of halyards, topping lifts, lazy jacks, and control lines.

The plier like form factor provides more leverage than shears.  Its small size and the pointed nose helps work in tight spaces.  An example of its use is avionics maintenance / repair where equipment is installed in tight spaces and need to be taken out, repair and re-installed.

Note: Cutting abrasives like fiberglass or carbon will dull these cutters for aramid use.  It is advisable to reserve a pair specifically for cutting Kevlar only.

Special Features:
  • Plier like form factor for high leverage during cuts

  • Sharp pointed nose to enter tight areas for cutting padding and insulation

  • Micro-serrated blade to grip material for non-slip cut

  • Sharp blade to shear material easily in tight spaces

  • Plier like grip gives more control for trimming and detailing

  • Non-serrated blade can be sharpened to extend life

  • Extended tang for durability and efficient force transfer

  • Adjustable pivot point to modify blades tension

  • Thermo-plastic elastomer handles for a comfortable non-slip grip

  • Ambidextrous

Applications:
  • Recreational marine (high mass fiber weaves, thin ropes, rigging, splicing, trimming)
  • Electrical (data cables, controls, insulation, felt)

  • Aviation (fiberglass, carbon fiber and shaping prepregs)

  • Avionics (fiber cable, Kevlar shields and thread)

  • Security (helmets, body armor, ballistic fabric, panels, gloves, jackets)

  • Upholstery (leather, leatherette, edge trimming)

  • Arts and Crafts

Great Kevlar and Dyneema cutter
I tested this by cutting Kevlar thread with scissors, side cutter. I also cut Dyneema. This is the only one that cut the Kevlar and Dyneema clean. Bit small so I am going to try the 801 scissors.

still like new
I sew shoes with Kevlar. My scissors don't last very long. In fact, they get kind of dinged after a while. I have been using these for two months, they still feel like new.

great for tight spaces
Great tool to cut Kevlar padding in very tight spaces. It's plier like construction maximizes the leverage on the cutting blades. As the specs say the blades are specially designed to cut Kevlar and it does the job. I am happy with how the project turned out.

surprised me
a friend had these & I needed to cut a hanging chad off my running shoes. This is all he had so I used it. Cut the chad right off and easily. Small size and all I didn't think it would be so sharp but it is.
