These scissors are ideal for use on small cutting surfaces such as rope, tape, ribbon, thread and cable made from aramid and para-aramid fibers such as Kevlar®, Dyneema®, Vectran®, Spectra®, Technora®, Nomex®, Innegra®, Dacron® and other materials made from fiberglass and carbon fiber.  Its blades are made of high carbon alloy steel from Japan and are infused with Molybdenum and Vanadium (HRC 60~62) through a proprietary manufacturing process to achieve a level of hardness (HV1200) to cut high tech material.  It can also be used to cut materials made from carbon fiber, glass fiber, plastic, canvas, vinyl, leather, suede, leatherette, nylon, silk, cotton, for upholstery, headliner, string or other knitted forms.

To cut composite-grade materials is a very difficult task.  These 5-1/2" shears are meant for precise and clean cuts into the material.  They can be used to make relief cuts during the lay-up process so reinforcements precisely fit in the mold.  Or cut stubborn threads hanging off the edge of fabric.  Or make small cuts for intricate parts.   The cutting performance is great across the length of the blade; in fact, the blades cut all the way to the tips for quick and accurate trimming.  They can also be used to make relief cuts during the lay-up process to fit the reinforcement into the mold.    Also used for splicing all type of halyards, sheets, topping lifts, lazyjacks and control lines.  Cut hanging fibers along the cutting edge of the fabric cleanly.  Cut fiber thread off the fiber optic cable neatly when installing connectors.

These shears are preferred by fiber cable installers during the process of fiber cable preparation along with Ascend Tools' 3-hole Fiber Cable Stripper (SKU No. FO3S-853).  Also preferred by marine riggers, rope manufacturers and aviation technicians.

Note: Cutting abrasive fibers like fiberglass or carbon will dull these shears for aramid use.  It is advisable to reserve one pair for cutting Kevlar only.

Special Features:
  • Short cutting blade length with fine points lends to accurate cuts on intricate parts

  • Tool of choice for fiber cable installers, fiber cable termination and repetitively cut Kevlar strengthener from fiber cables

  • Micro-serrated blade to grip material for non-slip cut

  • Sharp blade to shear material easily

  • Small size gives more control for trimming and detailing

  • Non-serrated blade can be sharpened to extend life

  • Extended tang for durability and efficient force transfer

  • Adjustable pivot point to modify blades tension

  • Thermo-plastic elastomer handles for a comfortable non-slip grip

  • Ambidextrous

Applications:
  • Recreational marine (high mass fiber weaves, thin ropes, trimming)
  • Commercial marine (Dyneema / Vectran / Spectra lines)

  • Electrical (data cables, controls, insulation, felt)

  • Aviation (fiberglass, carbon fiber and shaping prepregs)

Ideal for Kevlar cord
For our small business we cut 1/8 inch thick kevlar cord with these shears and a single cut is all that is needed to cleanly separate this tough cord. Better than a box cutter and several strokes. In six months they have retained their sharpness and have not required sharpening.

These snips are great for electrical wiring. Another guy at work used them and ordered one for himself. These will cut through about anything, within reason. Our electrical supplier brought in another brand but these scissors have been holding up really well in four months.
